Driver hits, seriously injures Brisbane woman who was with 4-year-old
Brisbane police said a woman was seriously injured in a crash Friday evening while she was with her 4-year-old daughter.
Around 6 p.m., a driver passing Midtown Market on Visitacion Avenue struck a woman who was standing outside her vehicle.
Police said she was critically injured and remains in serious condition. Her daughter had minor injuries and was found close to the roadway.
People in the area rushed to help when they saw the crash. Police said they closed down part of the road and took care of the 4-year-old girl so she wouldn't see her mother's injuries.
Police said a 71-year-old man was arrested on Saturday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence causing injury.
He was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility. Brisbane police said he could face additional charges as detectives continue to investigate.
"We are deeply thankful for the selflessness and courage shown by the members of our community," said Lisa Macias, Chief of Police at the Brisbane Police Department. "Their quick thinking helped prevent further harm and provided comfort to the child during a traumatic moment."
