Dramatic Video Shows Firefighters Saving Middletown House From Valley Fire Flames

MIDDLETOWN (CBS SF) -- Nearly 600 homes were destroyed in the Valley Fire over the weekend. As thousands more remain threatened by the raging flames, new video captures firefighters' daring efforts in saving at least one home Sunday morning.

The video footage shows Sacramento firefighters breaking through a fence to extinguish the burning roof of the house and remove burning debris nearby. The house is one of the many firefighters were able to save.

#ValleyFire: Dramatic new footage has emerged from Sacramento Fire OES 8434 as they worked to save a house early Sunday morning in Middletown on the Valley Fire. The crew was able to break through a fence, extinguish the burning awning and roof of the house, and remove burning debris and fencing from the perimeter. The house was saved.

The Valley Fire that started in Lake County on Saturday and has spread to Napa and Sonoma counties has burned 67,000 acres and is 15 percent contained as of Tuesday morning, Cal Fire officials said.

The blaze, which started at 1:24 p.m. Saturday in the Lake County area of Cobb, has killed a 72-year-old woman and injured four firefighters.

More than 2,300 fire personnel remain at the scene of the quick-moving wildfire and were assisted by cooler temperatures and higher humidity on Monday. However, Cal Fire officials do not have an estimate yet on when the fire will be fully contained.

TIMELINE:

Evacuation centers have been established in Calistoga, Kelseyville and Clearlake for the thousands of residents who had to flee from the fire.
