Dog Drops Human Skull In Clearlake Man's Yard; Body Found 100 Yards Away
CLEARLAKE (CBS SF) -- A Clearlake man found a human skull in his yard over the weekend, leading police to discover a body in a nearby wooded area.
The unidentified remains revealed the person was recently deceased, Sgt. Nick Bennett said in a press release Sunday. Detectives are waiting for an autopsy to determine the identity of the person.
At about 10:20 p.m. Friday, police received a call from the Clearlake resident who reported finding the skull in his yard. After questioning the resident, detectives determined that the resident's dog had probably found the skull nearby and dropped it in his yard.
Police deployed a search and rescue mission with canines the following day. At about 10:50 a.m. Saturday, one of the dogs located the partial remains of the body approximately 100 yards north of the residence where the skull had been found the night before, according to Bennett.
