Dog Dies In 2-Alarm Benicia House Fire

BENICIA (CBS SF) -- A two-alarm house fire Saturday evening in Benicia killed at least one dog and caused significant damage throughout the home, fire officials said.

Firefighters responded at 7:24 p.m. to a smoke alarm at 476 Casey Court.

The first crews to arrive found heavy smoke coming from a multi-story house and called for a first alarm, fire officials said.

But flames started coming from multiple windows on three sides of the home and firefighters called for a second alarm, according to fire officials.

An aggressive attack by firefighters brought the fire under control at 8:11 p.m., but not before a dog died.

No one was home when the fire broke out but investigators have yet to account for a tortoise and two other dogs that lived in the home.

No one was injured and no other homes sustained damage, fire officials said.

The cause is under investigation.
