Disney Considers Surge Pricing To Make Parks More Affordable, Less Crowded
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Looks like Disney may take a cue from Uber's surge pricing and offer demand-based ticket prices at its theme parks.
Right now a one-day pass to Disneyland in Anaheim for a person over 10-years-old costs $99. That same ticket to Disney World in Orlando, Florida is $105.
Under the demand-based price scheme, tickets would cost less on slower days and cost extra or have more restrictions on busier days.
The company said it is an attempt to make the parks less crowded and eliminate the wait time in lines. A demand-based price model could help make visits to the theme park more affordable for families, if they are willing to visit on slower days.
Attendance at Disney's theme parks has been at record levels in recent years, and the addition of the 14-acre Star Wars attraction will likely attract even bigger crowds.
