Construction Crews Rupture Natural Gas Line In SF's Bayview District
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS ) — Three homes were evacuated and streets were shutdown in San Francisco's Bayview District on Tuesday morning after contractors working the area struck and ruptured a gas line, a PG&E spokesman said.
PG&E spokesman Jason King told KCBS that they received a call about a gas line rupture at 9:45 a.m. near in the 1300 block of Palou Avenue between Keith and Jennings Streets by from a third-party, non-PG&E construction crew.
"We had crews on scene within 15 minutes; they immediately went to work with the first responders to make sure the situation was safe," he said.
"By 10:19 (a.m.) we had the flow of gas stopped."
Residents were allowed back into their homes after the rupture was contained and traffic was back opened on Palou Avenue between Keith and Jennings Streets.
King noted that April is "National Safe Digging Month" and the incident highlights the importance of calling 811 before commencing on a digging project to avoid risk to health, life or property.
