Despite Unmarked Grave, Steve Jobs Fans Continue Searching Palo Alto Cemetery
PALO ALTO (KPIX 5) -- Steve Jobs is buried in an unmarked grave in Palo Alto's Alta Mesa Cemetery, but that hasn't stopped fans of the tech mogul from trying to find it.
The release of the Steve Jobs movie, which opened in the Bay Area four days ago, has resurrected a new wave of grave hunters, says funeral home manager Don Van Straaten.
"Ii think it's just people wanting to be able to go a spot and pay their respects, and as close as they can get is inside the gates here at the cemetery," Director of Alta Mesa Van Straaten said
At his family's request, his grave is unmarked and the cemetery can't share the location. So fans including those from Russia and Brazil have been leaving messages for him in this memorial book in the lobby.
One person from Japan wrote: "Everyone knows you did many splendid things. Next is my turn."
"I was born and raised here, so I've known of him since he started, and it doesn't surprise me because he changed the face of the earth," Van Straaten said.
Steve's grave is one of a couple hundred that are not marked.
Van Straaten says no one has been close to finding Jobs' grave.
Shirley Temple is also buried at Alta Mesa, though her grave is marked.
