Denver Broncos' Team Buses Collide In Hwy 101 Accident

SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) -- Two Denver Broncos team buses were involved in an accident on Highway 101 in Sunnyvale Monday afternoon that sent a CHP officer to the hospital as a precaution, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The California Highway Patrol Golden Gate division tweeted about an injury accident on southbound U.S. Highway 101 at the State Route 237 interchange shortly after 2 p.m.

Initial reports indicated that the team was on two buses returning to the Marriott Hotel in Santa Clara from the practice facility in Stanford when the accident happened.

As they drove south on Highway 101, they hit some slow traffic as they approached state Highway 237 and two of the buses collided shortly before 2 p.m., CHP Officer Daniel Hill said.

No one on board the Broncos bus appeared to be injured. One of the buses sustained front-end damage, including a shattered windshield, and could not be driven away. The Broncos boarded a different bus and left the area, Hill said.

Video taken by Chopper 5 showed the team bus along the side of the freeway near the Sunnyvale Municipal Golf Course.

Broncos all-pro linebacker DeMarcus Ware tweeted out a picture of the scene after the accident.

In that photo, it appeared that a CHP motorcycle was stopped in front of the bus after the collision, but there was no confirmation whether that vehicle involved in the accident.

At the time of the accident, a CHP motorcycle officer went down. It was not immediately clear if he was injured, but he was taken to a hospital as a precaution, Hill said.

It still had not been confirmed if one of the buses actually struck the CHP officer's motorcycle.

The second bus was able to transport the team is back to the hotel without incident.

The team's Vice President of Public Relation Patrick Smyth tweeted about the accident at about 2:20 p.m., indicating that no one was injured and the team had returned to their hotel.
