Decorated Marine Veteran Who Survived Three Tours Of Duty In Iraq Shot Near His Antioch Home

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- A decorated Marine veteran has been hospitalized and is recovering after being shot near his home in Antioch.

32-year old Brandon Del Fiorentino was in serious condition but is expected to survive. Police think he was shot after yelling at a passing car to slow down.

The shooting happened just after midnight Friday on Golf Course Road.

Del Fiorentino survived three tours of duty in Iraq, suffering injuries to his brain, spine and eye.

"He survived the war, he put his life on the line already, and he comes home to a civilian life and he gets shot," said Josie Monaghan of the support group East County Veterans' Resource Center.

HELP SUPPORT BRANDON DEL FIORENTINO

The Military Warrior Support Foundation gave him, his wife and five children a house in Antioch on his return from duty.

Moynihan said her group is doing community outreach to support the family where Del Fiorentino is the sole bread-winner.

An account for the family has been set up at Mechanics Bank on Railroad Ave. in Pittsburg.

No one has been arrested in the shooting.
