Oakland Man Sentenced To Death For Murdering 8-Year-Old
OAKLAND (CBS SF) – An Oakland man has been sentenced to death for two murders in 2013, including the death of a young girl during a sleepover at her friend's house.
Alameda County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Horner sentenced Darnell Williams to death late Wednesday afternoon, after a jury convicted Williams and recommended the death penalty earlier this year.
A court official told KPIX 5 that three victims read victim impact statements before Horner handed down the sentence.
Williams was convicted of murdering 8-year-old Alaysha Carradine, who was sleeping at her friend's apartment on July 17, 2013.
Authorities said Williams fired 13 shots into the apartment as apparent revenge for the fatal shooting of a friend. The shooting nearly killed a 7-year-old girl, a 4-year-old boy and their 63-year-old grandmother.
Williams was also found guilty of murdering Anthony Medearis III in Berkeley several weeks after Alaysha was killed. Prosecutors said Williams fatally shot Medearis because he wanted to rob him and he thought he was a snitch.
