Shooting kills 4 family members in Alameda home; 1-year-old critically hurt, father arrested
A man went on a deadly rampage at his Alameda home Wednesday, police said, killing his wife, her parents, and his 6-year-old son, and leaving a 1-year-old son in critical condition.
Three of the victims died at the scene, two others were taken to the hospital where one died, Alameda police said.
The shooting happened at about 9 p.m. on the 400 block of Kitty Hawk Road. Alameda Police Chief Nishant Joshi said that after being shot, the gunman's father-in-law sought help from a neighbor to call 911.
Officers arrived to find the father-in-law outside the home while the other victims were found inside the house.

"This is a tragic and sad incident," Joshi told reporters at a press briefing Thursday morning. "And I'll say this, these are the actions of a coward. I know what happened, I have some idea of what happened, and this person's actions are those of a coward."
Joshi said the father-in-law provided some information to the officers before he died at the scene.
"The father-in-law did make some statements. We're still trying to review those and understand what was said," said Joshi. "Our officers do wear body-worn cameras. I'm not sure they captured that conversation."
Police gave no motive behind the shooting. The suspect was identified as 54-year-old Shane Killian and police said he was arrested on murder and attempted murder charges.
In a press statement, police said officers "recovered multiple firearms and significant evidence" from inside the home.
Joshi said some of the responding officers were shaken by the horror of the crime scene and the department was providing counseling and other support for them.
