Person Struck, Killed On Northbound 880 In Fremont
FREMONT (CBS SF) -- A pedestrian was struck and killed early Friday on Interstate 880 in Fremont, causing a massive backup in the northbound lanes that lasted several hours, authorities said.
CHP Officer Manuel Leal said his agency received a call about 3:36 a.m. reporting a pedestrian being struck on 880 just south of South Fremont Boulevard.
Arriving officers discovered a man who was declared dead at the scene. They immediately shutdown all northbound lanes as they investigated the crash.
Investigators said dispatch had "received multiple calls indicating the pedestrian had been struck by several vehicles and was down in the lanes of traffic."
However, a search of the area failed to locate any vehicles that were involved in the incident. \
Traffic was being diverted off the freeway, backing up the commute for several miles.
All lanes of northbound 880 were reopen around 6:40 a.m.
The CHP asked that anyone with information on the crash should call them at 510-489-1500.
