Day In Sharks Uniform Brings Martinez Heart Defect Survivor To Tears

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - The San Jose Sharks had an unexpected MVP Tuesday night when a fan who had been through some tough times joined the team and provided some inspiration for their push toward the playoffs.

Sam Tageson, 17, was born with a serious heart condition. With the help of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Sharks signed the Martinez native to a one-day contract.

He was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, meaning he was born with two heart valves instead of four, but that hasn't kept him from playing hockey. He's been at it since he was 6-years-old. Tuesday night he saw a life-long dream realized.

Tageson got to practice with the team and hang out in the locker room before the game with Florida Tuesday night. He also took part in the traditional skate through the shark head before the game, becoming the first non-active player ever to do so.

The only glitch in the feel-good moment was the Panthers ending the team's 6-game win streak.
