Warriors Dominating On The Court, Coming Up Big In The Community

KPIX 5 Morning Weather Anchor Roberta Gonzales answers the questions you never get to ask on-air.

Q: I see you doing the weather outside of many big games, do you ever get to meet the athletes?

A: Yes, I do, but it often isn't at the ballpark.

We know the Golden State Warriors have the best record in Basketball.

We know the Golden State Warriors are heading to the Playoffs.

But did you know the entire Golden State Warriors Organization devotes time OFF the Court to Community and Charity? It's true!

Think education, health & fitness, social responsibility and cultural diversity and arts. The Golden State Warriors remain strong and committed to Anti-Bullying, Recycling, Homes for Humanity and a number of charitable causes in which I have been so lucky to participate alongside.

This past season, I have keenly noted, a different week, a different Player rises to the occasion to make a difference. This week it's GS Warrior forward David Lee. As ambassador of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, David Lee will host a pregame meet and greet tonight with six-year old cancer survivor Kapri Geernaert at Oracle Arena.

Kapri and her family will stay for the game and cheer at the Warriors game against the Portland Trail Blazers. But Lee, doesn't do any of this for the promotion. He believes in it and puts his money behind it. Lee visited St. Jude's last month and donated $75,000 to help support the life-saving work of St. Jude. Last month's visit and donation by David Lee was only one of many for Lee throughout this career.

A Bay Area native, Kapri was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age five in June of 2014 and arrived at St. Jude three weeks later. After many months of treatment, Kapri finally returned home to San Francisco at the end of March. The support of dedicated ambassadors like Lee helps ensure that families like Kapri's never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

David Lee and the Golden State Warriors take to the court tonight at Oracle Arena. Tipoff is at 7:30pm. Go Warriors!
