Daily Madden: Will The Raiders Draft Johnny Manziel?
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel, often referred to as "Johnny Football," is reportedly in Oakland to meet with Raiders management.
"There are so many rumors on Johnny Manziel to where he's going to go in the draft," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. The Raiders have the fifth pick. "You don't know if he's going to be taken before you. And then you have to decide 'if he's not taken before us, is this where he should be taken? And do we really want him, and in our future, do we need him? So you just want more background information, because when the choice comes -- when the situations comes -- it's going to come quickly."
Madden thinks it's likely the Raiders will face that decision.
"But again, no one knows because no team is going to tell you what their draft board is and who they're going to take. And if they do tell you, they're lying... The clubs are lying and the gurus are guessing, so the sum of that is that no one knows."
Is Manziel a good fit for the Raiders?
"I like him, but I don't know enough to know if he could come in and be the face of the franchise for ten years," Madden said. "That's what the Raiders need. They can't make a mistake on the next quarterback that they take. I mean, they have to get the guy and he has to be the right guy and he has to be the right guy for a long time. Because it takes you so many years to recover from that when you make a mistake." (6:30)
