Daily Madden: Training Camp Marks A Fresh Start
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) - 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh is describing the start of training camp as a 'rebirth' of football.
John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew he understands the concept.
"You can't start where you ended up last year," Madden said. "It's a new year. It's a new team. It's a new start." Harbaugh told reporters the off-season is 'like being in the comfort of the womb,' and that the opening of training camp is like being born again.
"It's light, it's bright, it's noisy, it's the crazy world of football," Harbaugh said.
"That's the way to make a point," Madden said. "If you just say, 'well men, we have to have a good year this year and we have to practice hard,' that goes right over their head. They hear that stuff all the time. You have to give them something like (what Harbaugh said). And then someone is going to quote it, and then they're going to write it, and then they're going to re-do it. And you may kind of get to (the players) a little more than if you just regurgitated the normal stuff." (5:46)
