Daily Madden: The Sharks' Long Wait Until Their Next Game
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - Leading their NHL playoff series against the Los Angeles Kings 3-0, the Sharks lost four in a row in a bitter end to what started as a promising year.
"When it's the last one of the season it's the toughest, because there's no next game to take (the pain) away," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "If it happens during the season, you know you have to get over it at some point, and you usually allow yourself a day. Sometimes it will stretch into that second day. But by the third day after the game, that has to be out of your mind and you have to go on to the next game. Now when that game is the last game, you're going to play that year, then it really doesn't go away until the next season."
The Sharks are only the fourth team in NHL history to lose a playoff series after leading 3-0.
"When you have three games to none, and all you have to do is win one more game -- I mean, the pundits are calling it a cinch, they've 'got a walkover,' 'it's a lock,' or whatever they call it," John said. "And then you lose one. Then you lose two, then you lose three and then you lose four. That's the ultimate loss." (7:40)
