Daily Madden: The Beauty Of The Big Dance Cinderellas

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Cal Poly won its first ever NCAA Tournament game, setting up a Friday date with unbeaten and top seeded Wichita State.

"Go Mustangs, that's great!" Cal Poly alum John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "That's really the great thing about the tournament - people can really participate. You have the brackets and all that, and everyone can get into it, and you can kind of feel part of it. But then the other thing is to see these schools that (many people) never heard of, and you don't know where they are, and you learn a little about them and they have interesting stories. And every once in awhile they win a couple games."

Cal Poly beat Texas Southern 81-69 in Wednesday's First Four in Dayton. Madden said Cal Poly's first ticket to the NCAA Tournament increases the chances it won't be their last.

"If you think of every college coach, their number one thing is recruiting," John said. "And that's the toughest thing that they have to do because there are so many places that a kid could go to college for an education and to play basketball, and they're just one of so many. So anytime they get their name in the paper and their name or their team on ESPN or whatever, that really does help the recruiting." (7:15)
