Daily Madden: Texan J.J. Watt Will Be A Challenge For The Raiders

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — The Raiders will host the Houston Texans for a sold-out game at the Coliseum on Sunday and Coach Madden said rookie quarterback Derek Carr will face some challenges.

"It's going to be tough for them. They are not one of the better teams—obviously, they're not even in the middle of the pack and they kind of have to be bottom fishers. If there is a game that is close and they're close in talent, they're going to have to win some of those games. I think that Houston is possibly one of those teams and one of the teams that they can beat because I don't think Houston can score a lot points right now," Madden said.

One the big problems for Raiders, Madden said, will be defensive end J.J. Watt.

"He's the best defensive player in football and he can dominate and he can take over games so you put the combination of the best defensive player rushing a rookie quarterback, you better get a running game going. They can talk about the offensive line, pass protection and all those things but the thing that helps pass protection—more than anything—is a running game."

So is the Coach picking Houston?

"I hate to do that—then people think that's who you want to win and all that stuff but I just think that…the J.J. Watt factor, to me, is very big. There are not lot players on defense, over the years, that are that kind of guy that he is," he said.
