Daily Madden: Peyton Changes Definition Of 'Omaha'
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Quarterback Peyton Manning says he'll still use the word 'Omaha' while calling plays for the Denver Broncos this season.
"He'd have all those audibles and all that talk that he would be doing, then 'Omaha' would stop it," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "Then the next thing after 'Omaha' out of his mouth was the snap count."
Madden said there's no doubt 'Omaha' will have a different meaning than it did last season.
"You're going to know that there is a word, whether that word is 'Omaha' or 'North Platte,' that's going to be the stopping of the talking, and the next thing you're going to hear is the snap count."
The 49ers will have a new receiver listening to Colin Kaepernick's snap count this season after picking up veteran Stevie Johnson in a trade with Buffalo.
"I think it's a good move for the 49ers," Madden said. "They needed another veteran receiver, a guy that's been there, can move around, play a lot of positions."
Johnson had three 1,000 yard seasons catching passes for the Bills.
"He's not going to be the number one receiver, maybe (not) even the number two, but I think he's going to fit in well with what they have," Madden said. (6:40)
