Daily Madden: Packers Will Need A Lot Of Points In Playoffs

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Atlanta Falcons roared back from a 24 point deficit to scare the Packers, who pulled out a 43-37 win in Green Bay Monday night.

John Madden said the Falcons exposed a weakness that might stall the Packers in the playoffs.

"You think of (Green Bay) as one of the top teams -- and they are one of the top teams -- but they're one of the top teams because of Aaron Rodgers and their offense," Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "Their defense is lacking. And you can kind of do to them what they can do to you. So I think going forward -- you know as the games get bigger in the playoffs and stuff -- I think that's something that is going to have to be a concern to the Green Bay Packers."

But Madden said quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense might be good enough to overcome that weakness.

"The one play last night that really, really, really impressed me -- and I haven't seen it in years -- is the Packers are third and 17 and Aaron Rodgers throws a pass and converts," Madden said. "Most teams if you're third (down) with over seven yards to go, it's a give-up. They'll throw some short little dunk pass or a screen or something like that. They won't go for the 10, 12, 15 yard pass. I thought that was big. Third and seventeen and you convert it, man you're a quarterback for all ages... It's hard to get that much time to be able to get that deep, but the Green Bay Packers are the one team that can do it." (7:05)
