Daily Madden: Mayweather Deserved $15,000 Per-Second Payday
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Floyd Mayweather says he earned $70 million in his majority decision over Marcos Maidana in their championship fight in Las Vegas Saturday.
"I think the contract was for like $32 million, so there must have been a lot of pay-per-view buys for him to make that much money," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
$70 million works out to nearly $15,000 a second.
"But you don't have a lot of seconds," Madden said. "He earned it by getting people to watch it. People wanted to tune in to watch him, and that's why they made the pay-per-view and that's why the crowd was so large, because of him."
Mayweather is 46-0 after the hard-fought bout.
"He had to wrap his brain around a lot of punches," John said. "He's fresh, though. He hasn't had a lot of wars"
At age 37, Mayweather has a contract for three more fights. "A good 37, though," Madden said. "He really works hard. He's in great, great, great shape." (6:40)
