INGLEWOOD (KCBS) – The Inglewood City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve an 80,000 seat stadium, as the city moves a step closer to bringing the National Football League back to Southern California.

The project, planned at the site of the old Hollywood Park racetrack, involves St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke.  The Rams are on a year-to-year lease deal at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis and have been looking to upgrade their stadium for some time.

Approval of the stadium plan comes a week after the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers announced plans to build a joint stadium in the city of Carson.

"I've felt all along that LA is going to get a team, and they'll get a team when they get a stadium.  I also felt that when they get a stadium, they're going to get two teams," he said.  "So it's hard to say which two teams.  I don't know how you would go St. Louis and one of the others, the Raiders or the Chargers."

Madden said he still believes both the Raiders and Chargers would prefer to work out a deal to stay where they are, but the joint stadium plan in Carson gives them an alternative.
