Daily Madden: Home Field Is Nice, But Not A 'W'

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Cincinnati's 37-28 victory over the Denver Broncos Monday night means the Bengals will play in the post-season for the fourth year in a row. It also gave the New England Patriots home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs.

"Home field has never won anything," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew, noting it shouldn't make any team feel comfortable. At 12-3, the Patriots have the best record in the NFL.

"Maybe it helps, (but) they have to worry about something." The Patriots also get a first round bye. "If they want to get to the Super Bowl, they have to worry about winning two games. Because you get home field advantage, that doesn't put you automatically -- as we've learned year after year after year -- that doesn't automatically put you in the Super Bowl."

Madden said both the Patriots coach and quarterback are experienced enough to know they have plenty of work to do no matter where they play. "Bill Belichick -- and Tom Brady too -- he'll always find something to worry about... They have two games to worry about before the Super Bowl." (7:35)
