Daily Madden: Derek Jeter Deserving Of All-Star Fanfare
(KCBS) - Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter is expected to start for the American League in the All-Star game Tuesday night in his last season playing professional baseball.
"What do you do for a Derek Jeter in his last All-Star Game?" John Madden asked the KCBS Radio morning crew. "They should do something special."
Madden said Jeter stands out among professional athletes for his dedication and respect for the game.
"You say (to other players) 'be like him.' Well, there's something that makes him so special that anyone that wants to be like him can't," John said. "We had that years and years ago in the NFL with Roger Staubach. 'Why aren't more guys like Roger Staubach?'... Derek Jeter is a special guy and it's hard to emulate a special guy, and especially when that 'specialness' about him is greatness. That's hard to emulate." (6:25)
