Daily Madden: Broncos Are The Class Of The League Right Now
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - In their second straight win against a quality opponent, the Broncos beat the San Diego Chargers 35-21 in Denver Thursday night.
"Right now they're the best team in the NFL," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "Last year if they had a weakness or an Achilles heel it was probably their defense. This year it's not a big strength, but it's a lot stronger than it was a year ago."
Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns.
"The thing that impressed me is the middle of his offensive line -- the center and two guards -- and how they protect, and (how) they don't let any penetration come up the middle... They darn near had a perfect pocket for Peyton for every pass that he threw."
Madden said Manning is hard to beat.
"I really think he's better now than he was five, six, seven years ago." Is he the best ever?
"I don't know," John said. "That's always a tough one because it's different eras, different times, different rules, different ways to play the game. I know one thing, you can't compare it with stats. Because we're on a (pace) now -- if the league keeps going at the same pace -- where we're going to throw more passes for more yardage for more scores than any time in the history of the game."
