Daily Madden: Andrew Luck Is 'The Next One'
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — It's week 2 of the regular NFL season the Coach told the KCBS crew which games he is looking forward to watching.
The game between the 49ers and Chicago is definitely on his list along with the Chiefs and the Broncos.
"It sounded like a good game before the season and it could very well be a good game. I think you have to find out what the Chiefs were last year or if they've reverted back to what they were before to what they used to be. I think you are going to find out a lot about them in that game."
But the matchup between the Eagles and Colts looks to be the best, Madden said.
"I really like Andrew Luck in the way that he plays and comes back. I think he's something special. And then if you look at the NFC East, it's not a real strong division but probably in that division, the Eagles are probably the best team, so I think that's going to be an interesting one."
The Coach calls The Colt's quarterback the "next one."
"He's the next Peyton Manning, Tom Brady—that group; Joe Montana before then and Steve Young. He's going to be 'That Guy.' You could argue whether it's going to be this year, or next year or the year after but Andrew Luck is the future top quarterback in the NFL."
The KCBS morning crew also asked the Coach for advice with their national Pro Football Knockout Pool in which, each week, you pick one game but only pick a given team once during the season.
Stan Bunger admitted, he was already in the consolation pool, and wasn't faring well against sports anchor Steve Bitker, who also the lead in the national Pro Football Challenge game .
Madden recommended picking 'against' a team as a different strategy.
"You can't pick a team, but you can pick against a team," said Madden. "At some point, you'll get in a bind."
