Daily Madden: 49ers Happy To Be Home For Thanskgiving
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - It's been a short week for the 49ers and the Seahawks, who square off at Levi's Stadium Thanksgiving evening.
"That's about as tough a thing as you can do," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew, noting it will even tougher for the visiting Seahawks.
"I think it's a big advantage on the short week to play at home. Even if everything else were equal -- and I know they give points for home field -- this is where it really is big. Because the traveling team has an interrupted Wednesday. The home team doesn't."
The 49ers and Seahawks are tied at 7-4, two games behind the Cardinals, who lead the NFC West.
"This is a big game, but it's not the finale because they're going to play again," Madden said. "There's still a lot of football left to be played. Arizona, they have that lead... but they're not a tough, dominant, elite team."
The 49ers haven't been scoring a lot of points, but Madden said they can win with ball control.
"(They need) consistency in holding the ball, just getting first downs. Against (the Seahawks), you can't do a lot of three and outs. You don't have to score every time, but you have to maintain the ball long enough to give your defense a real rest. Because if they're going to beat them, the 49er defense has to play a big part."
