CVS Recalls Herbal Tea Over Possible Salmonella Contamination
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- CVS is voluntarily recalling cases of organic tea after the manufacturer reported it could contain salmonella.
The recall covers 1.4 ounce boxes of Gold Emblem Abound Organic Spiced Herbal Tea. The 'sell by' date was March 18, 2018.
In a press release CVS said, "an ingredient produced by the manufacturer's raw material supplier tested positive for Salmonella in another company's product. CVS Pharmacy's Gold Emblem product also contains this ingredient."
Customers who purchased the tea are advised to immediately discontinue use and return it to CVS for a refund.
CVS says there have been no reported cases of illness. Salmonella poisoning can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Severe cases can result in endocarditis, arthritis and arterial infections.
