Curry Wins 'Magic Johnson Award' From Pro Basketball Writers
OAKLAND (CBS SPORTS) -- In the last two seasons, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has gone from an All-Star to a superstar. Somehow, while emerging as the most popular and arguably best player in the NBA, Curry has remained accessible when it comes to the media. For this reason, the Professional Basketball Writers Association named him the winner of the 2015-16 Magic Johnson award on Tuesday.
The award is given to the player who "best combines excellence on the basketball court with cooperation and dignity in dealing with the media and the public," per the PBWA. Past winners include Pau Gasol (2014-15), Dirk Nowitzki (2013-14) and Shane Battier (2012-13). Members of the PBWA vote for it.
There were four other finalists: New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, Warriors forward Draymond Green, Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard and Atlanta Hawks forward Paul Millsap.
