Oakland Protest In Honor Of Martin Luther King Jr. Shut Down BART Station Temporarily
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- The Fruitvale BART station in Oakland has reopened Sunday evening, according to BART officials.
The station closure was announced around 10 p.m. on the transportation agency's official Twitter feed. The station reopened roughly 20 minutes later, according to BART officials.
Demonstrators gathered at Frank Ogawa Plaza around 7 p.m. and have been marching through the streets since around 7:30 p.m., according to Oakland police.
The demonstration is one of many across the Bay Area as part of a weekend of events to mark the birthday of civil rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr.
According to a Facebook page advertising the event, the march is a protest against police brutality.
