Creative Recruiter Finds Tech Talent For Ebay, StubHub
Jessica Love is creative recruiter at eBay. She identifies and assesses talent for employment opportunities within eBay and StubHub. Her profession emerged and is driven by innovation because technology needs great designers that advocate for the user. Without beautiful digital interfaces and logical user experience, nobody would enjoy being online.
What are the scope and responsibilities of your current role?
"I partner with eBay hiring managers in order to understand their goals and growth opportunities. I recruit passive and active candidates via sourcing, market intelligence, competitor intelligence, specializing in user experience design, user experience research, design producers, product marketing and copy / content strategist roles. I also use social media to conduct sourcing initiatives resulting in an increase in candidate flow and interest as well as facilitate hiring at eBay and manage the candidate experience by communicating position requirements, company culture and next steps."
What is your favorite part of your daily duties?
"I love giving someone an offer they can't refuse. It is such a great feeling when my hiring managers are impressed with a candidate after an interview, and they want me to extend an offer to someone who really wants to work at eBay."
Do you feel your education prepared you for your current role?
"I would say so, even though I didn't complete college, I studied music for twelve years. I learned to read it, play it and sing it. I've also performed in front of people at various events throughout my life. This aids me in understanding the complexity of skill, experience and organic talent necessary to be a great designer. Expressing oneself through art is a soulful experience. Concepting a design, a song or any form of art first begins in our heart and mind. This soulful expression often leaves an artist vulnerable to praise or criticism. Artists are brave people, and the best ones learn how to accept constructive criticism from a mentor, leader or teammate in order to produce a masterpiece at some point down the line."
Do you have any advice for people who desire to pursue a similar career?
"Effective writing to internal stakeholders and candidates happens every day in this job. Therefore, good communication skills are essential. Not only that, a recruiter offers the first glimpse into a company's brand and culture through communication during the hiring process. The recruiter must make this experience as good as possible. Finally, if anyone wants to pursue a career in creative recruiting, being a skilled artist themselves makes it easier to understand complex and comprehensive design, and it allows someone to easily relate to other artists internally and externally throughout their career."
