Antioch Bridge Reopens After Fiery Crash Involving Semi-Trucks

RIO VISTA (CBS SF) -- The Antioch Bridge and State Route 160 have reopened after an injury accident involving two semi-trucks forced the span to be shut down for hours Monday, according to CHP.

The accident was first reported on the California Highway Patrol live traffic information website shortly after 10 a.m. CHP reported that both trucks were on fire.

The Solano County Fire Department was contacted to request support and an air ambulance. Rio Vista police and fire also responded to the scene.

Rio Vista police later clarified that one of the semi-trucks caught fire and started a brush fire at the side of the highway.

The trucks were off the roadway, but CHP still issued a Sig Alert shutting down State Route 160 including the Antioch Bridge shortly after 10:30 a.m. Route 160 is closed between Wilbur Avenue and Highway 12.

One driver suffered burns on his body and was transported by helicopter to the hospital, according to Rio Vista police. That driver suffered serious burns and life-threatening injuries

During the closure, traffic was diverted off to CA-12 and Wilbur Avenue. Motorists are advised to expect delays and to use alternate routes to avoid the area.

Caltrans advised the estimated time to reopen the roadway is 4 p.m., but the Sig Alert didn't end up getting cancelled until closer to 4:24. Lanes were finally reopened shortly after 4:30, but drivers should anticipate residual delays.
