Coyote Attacks Dog In San Francisco's Stern Grove Park
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- A coyote attacked a small dog in a dog park in San Francisco's Stern Grove Saturday morning, but was spared when a bystander sent her dogs after the predator.
Eva Kristenson was walking her 5-year-old Dachshund 'Jasmine' off leash at the park just after 8 a.m. Saturday when she looked up to see the coyote had snatched Jasmine away.
"I saw her hanging out of the coyote's mouth," Kristenson told KPIX 5.
Sue Redding, who was also walking her dogs in the park saw the commotion, and sent her dog after the coyote.
"I see the woman, and I scream, 'the coyote's got your dog!' And, at that point, we're both like, 'what do we do?' So, I looked at my dogs and I said, 'Mia, get the coyote,'" Redding said.
That's when Mia jumped into action.
"She ran up the hill, and confronted the coyote, and the coyote dropped the dog, and then Mia came running back to me like it was Rin Tin Tin on command. It was amazing. She's a hero," Redding said.
Jasmine was bloodied, and seriously wounded from the attack.
"When I think about it still, I feel a terror inside me," Kristenson said.
She was very grateful to Redding, and her dogs.
"I really want to say thank you to her and her two dogs. They saved Jasmine's life," Kristenson said.
Warning signs were posted in the park warning visitors of the attack.
This was the second coyote attack on a dog in Stern Grove in just the past four months.
