Countdown To Super Bowl 50 Starts Thursday With Waterfront Celebration
KPIX 5 Morning Weather Anchor Roberta Gonzales answers the questions you never get to ask on-air.
Q: Roberta, was that you interviewing the great Jim Plunkett of Raider fame on Wednesday? Mike Moore; Montclair
A: YES! And I was totally awestruck!
The countdown to Super Bowl 50 has officially begun! On Wednesday (150 days away until the Super Bowl), I had the privilege reporting from Justin Herman Plaza where legendary Oakland Raider Jim Plunkett and Hall Of Famer 49er, Steve Young were on hand to kick off the fun and frenzy of Super Bowl 50! There was a program filled with activities leading up to the Super Bowl, here is one of the first you can experience.
The San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl 50 Host Committee is bringing "The 50 Tour: Champions of the Bay" to appear at the Mountain View Art and Wine Festival this weekend. It's a huge mobile exhibit designed to celebrate the history of the Bay Area's championship teams, the Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers. According to the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee, the tour appearance will feature:
- Champions Row: The Bay Area has more Super Bowl wins than any other region. Eight Bay Area Super Bowl Vince Lombardi Trophies will be on display – five from the San Francisco 49ers and three from the Oakland Raiders – with photo montages capturing the championship wins. The 50 Tour will be the first time that all eight championship trophies will be displayed together.
- The Chevron STEM Zone: An initiative to promote higher education in science, technology, engineering, and math, the Chevron STEM Zone will invite Tour visitors to learn more about the science of football. Together, Chevron and the 49ers Foundation have donated $4 million dedicated to providing engaging STEM curriculum for Santa Clara area students.
- Autograph Sessions: on Saturday, September 12, fans will have the opportunity to meet current and former NFL players, as well as other Bay Area champions. And you will be able to see our KPIX Mobile Weather truck oon display as I report weather LIVE from the Festival!
According to CEO of the Super Bowl Host Committee, the BEST way to follow the Vince Lombardi Trophies road trip is to download the official app! Go to your App Store and download "Road To 50" and you can see when the Trophies will be near YOU! I've got my app….and I am on the Road to 50!
Please send weather questions, observations and photos to me, Gonzales@kpix.cbs.com and I look forward to hearing from you!
