Soccer Fans Flock To Levi's Stadium For Copa America Opening Game
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- The major soccer tournament, Copa America, celebrates its 100th year and it's opening game is at Santa Clara's Levi Stadium Friday night with Team USA going up against Colombia.
Soccer fans in the Bay Area are ecstatic. Although the match is being held on American turf, there was a huge sea of Colombia yellow outside Levi's Stadium on Friday afternoon prior to the game.
Colombia is ranked third on the FIFA world ranking, while Team USA is ranked 31st.
Colombia has defeated Team USA in two Copa America tournaments, in 1995 and 2007. But the U.S. is in the midst of a six-match winning streak on home soil, according to Copa America officials.
Thirty-two games between 16 teams will be played in the tournament across ten U.S. cities. This is the first time the event has been hosted outside South America, according to Copa America officials.
Kickoff for USA vs Colombia at Levi's Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m. PST
