Computer Failure Cripples 911 Dispatch System For Brentwood, Antioch Area
BRENTWOOD (CBS SF) -- A computer failure has crippled the emergency dispatch center for the Brentwood and Antioch area.
Sources with decades of experience told KPIX 5 the system known as CAD that dispatches officers to crime scenes was likely stopped working after a power failure.
The system stopped working shortly after the 4th of July holiday, making emergency communications and responses slower.
Without the computers, dispatchers must write down incidents on paper, and look up locations on traditional paper maps. While the system is down, none of the information is getting recorded in a computer database.
Antioch was hit hard by crime recently, with nine people shot in two separate incidents last week.
"That's horrifying. Someone can die without being seen immediately, crimes can't be stopped as quickly as they should be. It's going to be really bad," Antioch resident Andrea Martel said.
