Coliseum Official: Deal For New Oakland Raiders Stadium 'Gurgling Blood'
OAKLAND (KCBS)-- A Coliseum official close to the talks for a new Raiders stadium in Oakland is saying the deal is "gurgling blood", according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Columnists Phil Matier and Andy Ross reported in Monday's paper that the only question about the deal to build a new stadium is when it will be declared dead.
The main factors are reported to be the cost (to build the stadium and of the land) and the future of the A's. While the team and the league have about $500 million between the two of them, that's estimated to be just half of what the stadium would cost.
Meanwhile, the source told the Chronicle the Raiders apparently want the land for free and the city and Alameda County aren't willing to deliver. The Chronicle's source also said the Raiders insist on tearing down the Coliseum once the new stadium is constructed, although the Oakland A's have extended their lease on the stadium for ten years versus the Raiders' one-year extension.
Matier and Ross' source spoke on the condition of anonymity.
