Coast Guard Crew Returns To Alameda After 140-Day Drug Enforcement Mission In Latin America

ALAMEDA (CBS SF) -- A local U.S. Coast Guard crew is scheduled to return to Alameda Monday morning after a 140-day deployment.

The crew of the Coast Guard cutter Bertholf is returning from the deployment in the Eastern Pacific Ocean after seizing more than $183 million worth of illegal narcotics, Coast Guard officials said.

The crew was deployed off the coast of Central America and South America in support of a drug operations task force.

Officials said the crew was involved in detaining a number of suspicious vehicles and suspects and in the seizure of more than 12,000 pounds of illegal narcotics.

The crew is scheduled to return around 8 a.m.
