Sanders, Clinton Butt Heads Over State Senate Candidates
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are butting heads once again.
The former rivals are throwing their support behind two different candidates in a high-stakes race, based right here in the Bay Area.
Jane Kim is feeling the burn after getting Sanders' endorsement.
"Are we going to make Jane Kim the next state senator from this district," sanders said.
I'm incredibly honored and excited to have senator sander's endorsement and it's great that even after his presidential bid that he's continuing to campaign for down ballot candidates
And, Hillary Clinton is with him, throwing support behind supervisor Scott Wiener.
"And I want to applaud a lot what's happening here in San Francisco and give a special shout out to supervisor Scott Wiener and everyone who worked so hard to pass paid family leave," Clinton said.
It's unusual for such big names to pay attention to a local race, especially one between democrats.
This state senate race is not your typical state senate race. It is definitely an intense one, really debating the future of our city and of our state so it's a typical but not shocking that it could get elevated to that level.
"I think it's great that presidential candidates are acknowledging the work of San Franciscans representatives it just shows that what we do does matter and that when California leads the rest the country follows," Kim said.
Assemblyman David Chiu knows what it's like to run for office and get endorsements. We asked, who would be his dream candidate endorsement?
"I think at this moment present to Barack Obama. He is the bomb," Chiu said.
