CHP Investigate Death Of Motorcyclist On Hwy 101 In San Jose
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Lanes have reopened on U.S. Highway 101 in San Jose where a motorcyclist was killed when he crashed into the center divider and landed on the roadway this afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers responded to a report of a person on the road on northbound Highway 101 north of Interstate Highway 880 near North First Street around 2:15 p.m., CHP officials said.
A man was driving a Harley-Davidson or a similar brand motorbike on southbound Highway 101 when he crashed into the center guardrail, CHP Officer Ross Lee said.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the CHP San Jose area office at (408) 467-5400.
The motorcyclist, possibly in his 60s, ended up in the far left northbound lane and was pronounced dead at the scene, Lee said.
It's not clear what circumstances led up to the crash, Lee said.
A Sig-alert was issued at 2:46 p.m. closing two northbound lanes that reopened around 4:45 p.m., CHP officials said.
