'Chop Shop' Found Selling Parts From Stolen Vehicles In Solano County
VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- The Solano County Sheriff's Office discovered a chop shop selling parts from stolen vehicles Tuesday, a deputy said.
The sheriff's office received an anonymous tip on the Crime Stoppers hotline on Oct. 9 about a stolen vehicle, Deputy Christine Castillo said.
The sheriff's stolen vehicle task force investigated the tip and served a search warrant at a large residential property in the 400 block of Banning Way off Benicia Road in the east Vallejo area of unincorporated Solano County Tuesday, Castillo said.
They found 20 vehicles that were being dismantled, six of which had been reported stolen, including a 1966 Corvette Stingray and a Bobcat trailer, Castillo said.
The vehicles were reported stolen within the past few months, but the Corvette was taken about a year ago, Castillo said.
The investigation also uncovered a second address where two more stolen vehicles were found. No arrests have been made and the investigation is continuing, Castillo said.
Anyone with information about the chop shop is asked to call the sheriff's investigation bureau at (707) 784-7050 or Crime Stoppers at (707) 644-STOP.
Castillo said the case is an example of how an anonymous tip can lead to the discovery of a major crime.
