Livermore Boy Recovering At Home After Car Plows Into Backyard, Kills 2 Relatives

LIVERMORE (KPIX 5) – A Livermore boy is back home Monday after police said a drunk driver plowed into their backyard on Saturday. The crash killed his aunt and baby cousin.

Carlos Morales said the only moments he remembers Saturday night, were moments his family was trying to keep him alive.

"He kept nodding off, every time we tried talking to him," said Rosa Morales, the victim's sister.

Rosa remembers very well, dragging him out under their fence, after police said a drunk driver plowed his car into their backyard where Carlos was playing.

While he's still in pain, so is his family emotionally.

"I feel like if it wasn't for my birthday they wouldn't have came out here. I feel like it's my fault," Rosa said.

Rosa said family members were at their apartment on Murrieta Boulevard that night for her birthday and for Carlos' first Communion. Her mom, aunt and 14-month-old cousin were outside taking the dog for a walk when police say the suspect Brian Jones lost control of his car.

Her aunt, who they've identified as Esperanza Morales, and her baby Juli died.

Police said Jones admitted to being at the Livermore Wine Country Festival. Hours after the deadly crash, he bailed out of jail, and was back out on the streets.

"I want him to pay for what he did and I don't want him to be out on the street killing more families," Rosa said.
