In Postseason Dominated By Underdogs, Giants Favored Thursday

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - The Giants need one more win to return to the World Series and they send their ace to the mound Thursday night; but before you click on Craigslist hoping to find some semi-affordable seats for the World Series, keep this in mind: The Giants are favored by Las Vegas oddsmakers Thursday, and those guys have been wrong pretty much the entire MLB Postseason.

The Giants send send out starter Madison Bumgarner Thursday. He's given up two earned runs (in a single game) this in October, and he was cruising in that outing before his own throwing error. Las Vegas bookies have noticed this, and made the Giants a solid favorite for Thursday's game five of the best-of-seven series. You have to risk about $150 to win $100 betting on the Giants against Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright, according to VegasInsider.com.

That may sound like good news to some Giants fans, but keep in mind, Vegas has been wrong about the winner of every series so far this postseason. The Dodgers, Angels, Tigers and Nationals were all favored heading into the divisional round and they're all golfing now. The Orioles were picked to win the ALCS and they were swept. The Cardinals had a slight advantage heading into the NLCS, but that has vanished now that they need three straight wins to advance.

The only silver lining for underdog-loving Giants fans? If the team fails to close out the series in either of the next two games, they'll surely be discounted heading into Game 7 in St. Louis.

The Royals, who have already advanced to the series, are currently the favorites to win it all.
