Update: Eastbound lanes on Richmond-San Rafael Bridge reopen after car fire cleared
RICHMOND – CHP issued a severe traffic alert early Monday evening after a car fire on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge shut down eastbound lanes for about 90 minutes.
Authorities initially reported the car fire at around 5:42 p.m. midspan on the bridge. The California Highway Patrol Marin office posted about the car fire on Twitter at 6:15 p.m. with a photo of the burned-out vehicle.

The CHP said a vehicle fire closed the lanes two and three near midspan. Crews quickly responded and extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported as a result, but traffic was backed up to San Quentin and the U.S. Highway 101 and I-580 interchange.
Authorities reported that the incident was cleared and all eastbound lanes reopened by about 7:17 p.m. Drivers should expect residual delays traveling on the bridge in the eastbound direction.
