Evacuations Lifted as Firefighters Make Progress Battling Quail Fire Near Vacaville
SOLANO COUNTY (CBS SF) -- Mandatory evacuation orders for the Quail Fire which has burned more than 1,800 acres near Winters north of Vacaville have been lifted, according to Cal Fire.
The blaze started Saturday in the area of Quail Canyon Road and Pleasants Valley Road, growing Sunday to 1,837 acres. The fire was at 40 percent containment as of 4:35 p.m.
A mandatory evacuation order was lifted Sunday afternoon for residents along Quail Canyon Road from Pleasants Valley road to Highway 128.
Cal Fire said three structures were destroyed in the fire. Seven crews of 600 total personnel were assigned to battle the fire.
Several hundred firefighters from Cal Fire and surrounding agencies as far away as San Ramon had joined the fight as the fire quickly spread eastward late Saturday. They were aided by air tankers until nightfall and setting back fires to slow the blaze's advance.
Fire officials said they first received word of the wildland fire on the 8000 block of Quail Canyon Road north of Vacaville in Solano County around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. By 9 p.m., the fire had grown to 1,200 acres.
