Calm Winds, High Humidity Help Firefighters Keep Napa Blaze Under Control
ST. HELENA (CBS SF) — Calm winds and mild temperatures Wednesday help firefighters to quell a scorching wildfire that's already consumed 3,200 acres in Northern Napa County.
Low clouds and fog moved well onshore Wednesday morning, raising the humidity levels in the Napa Valley to around 90 percent. Winds were also very calm, which was very good news for firefighters.

Humidity levels are expected to drop by 30 to 40 percent by Wednesday afternoon with the breeze picking up between 5 to 15 mph with occasional gusts to 20 mph.
Wednesday's high temperatures will also be cooler and in the low 80s.
Fire weather conditions can be influenced by the fire itself and the local topography. There may be a few 'hot spots' due to some of these local phenomena. Otherwise these improved weather conditions should give firefighters a good chance to control the blaze.
Low clouds and fog will return by Wednesday night with higher humidity again around 80 to 90 percent. Thursday's fire weather conditions will be very similar to Wednesday's.
By Friday, high pressure will begin to strengthen reducing the sea breeze and humidity. Temperatures this weekend will also become much hotter and in the 90s.
