California Voters Approve Prop 1, $7.12 Billion State Water Bond

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Voters supported Proposition 1 Tuesday, authorizing $7.12 billion for state water supply infrastructure projects.

About a third of the Prop 1 money will go for new water storage, presumably dams. The rest will be used for waste water management, storm water capture, recycling and ground water cleanup.

A projected win was called about 2 hours after the polls closed Tuesday night.

Governor Jerry Brown championed the initiative along with Proposition 2, the Rainy Day Budget Stabilization Fund Act., raising nearly $11 million for TV ads touting "Save water, save money.
