California Tradition Of 'Green Friday' Medical Pot Sales Spreads Nationwide
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- It's an annual tradition familiar to medical marijuana users in the Golden State. Now, "Green Friday" has gone national.
With recreational-use marijuana legal in Washington and Colorado, dealers in both states offered doorbuster deals and discounts on marijuana products modeled on the many Black Friday shopping deals in mainstream commercial stores.
One dispensary in Colorado is selling pot in the shape of miniature Christmas trees. Denver's Medicine Man store offered a Green Friday 50%-off discount for their top-shelf marijuana products, CBS News reported.
In the Bay Area, David Downs, who covers marijuana news, listed 8 local medical marijuana dispensaries that were offering discounts on his Legalization Nation blog for East Bay Express.
In Washington state, Sue Vorenberg, writing for Cannabis Chronicles, pointed out that, legally, at least one element that drives traditional Black Friday frenzy isn't applicable to Green Friday. That's because, in Washington, it's illegal to give marijuana as a gift.
