Cal Fire Fighting 800 Acre Wildfire In Monterey County

MONTEREY (CBS SF) -- Cal Fire officials said a wildfire burning Sunday evening in unincorporated Monterey County has grown to 800 acres.

Firefighters were dispatched at 3:27 p.m. to the Metz Fire, which is located near Metz Road and Blue Jay Lane, east of Soledad.

The fire is zero percent contained, according to Cal Fire spokesman Jonathan Pangburn.

No one has been injured and there is no immediate threat to homes.  The main threat is to power transmission lines, which would cause a major power loss in Monterey County, Pangburn said. .

"That is the primary concern," he said.

Wind is the driving force behind the fire, which is burning mostly grasses.

About 135 firefighters are fighting the blaze with 24 engines, six airtankers, two helicopters and two bulldozers.
